John Ruskin's Coniston Water

Once settled by the Vikings, Coniston in the south west of the Lake District has much to offer the visitor with the Coppermines Valley and The Old Man for walkers and Grizedale Forest has numerous marked tracks for the cyclist.

The Gondola, a Victorian Steam Yacht which cruises the lake calls at Brantwood during the summer, originating from Coniston where their is a New Museum to Ruskin.

The local brew is a Bluebird Bitter named after the boat in which Donald Campbell was killed trying to break the Water Speed Record. The boat was recently raised from the depths of the lake in preparation for a new attempt on the record in 2005.
